 EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY

What is equality and diversity?

Although sometimes used interchangeably, the terms ‘equality’ and ‘diversity’ are not the same.
Equality is about ‘creating a fairer society, where everyone can participate and has the opportunity to fulfil their potential By eliminating prejudice and discrimination,
Diversity literally means difference. When it is used as a contrast or addition to equality, it is about recognising individual as well as group differences, treating people as individuals, and placing positive value on diversity in the community and in the workforce.
Why is equality and diversity important?
Equality and diversity is becoming more important in all aspects of our lives and work for a number of reasons:
  • We live in an increasingly diverse society and need to be able to respond appropriately and sensitively to thisdiversity. Learners in the healthcare setting will reflect this diversity around gender, race and ethnicity, disability, religion, sexuality, class and age.
  • Your organisation believes that successful implementation of equality and diversity in all aspects of work ensures that colleagues, staff and students are valued, motivated and treated fairly.
  • We have an equality and human rights legal framework covering employment practices and service delivery and qe need to ensure we work within this and avoid discrimination.
RACE

How Long has Racism Been around for ?

Racism has always been a part of human life, regardless of when and where one has lived. . Slavery gets a lot of attention in the US due to it being a major part of US history and the formation of the country and its belief system.
Wikipedia's definition of racism is '...the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.

here are some images used to show racism and also how we fight it.

in this picture it shows one footballer supposedly racially abusing another this gave more cause for the slogan below

IDEAS

after researching equality and diversity i managed to draw up a few ideas!
here are my ideas and reasons behind them

i was looking at the possibility of race and for this i thought first of using apples? i had the idea of placing green apples all together and then having one red one in the bunch ?

the idea behind this is to show that even tho the red apple is a different colour its still an apple.

IDEA 2

my second idea was using some justice scales with a black snooker ball and a white snooker ball on each side both equal to each other.

Representations of the Lady of Justice in the Western tradition occur in many places and at many times. She sometimes wears a blindfold, more so in Europe, but more often she appears without one. She usually carries a sword and scales. Almost always draped in flowing robes, mature but not old, no longer commonly known as Themis, she symbolizes the fair and equal administration of the law, without corruption, avarice, prejudice, or favor.
